Description

The Plati Viaduct steel-concrete composite bridge is part of the Bovolino - Bagnara motorway in Calabria, southern region of Italy. This project consists of two 320 m and 400 m long viaducts.

ULMA solution

ULMA contributed an innovative solution for the construction of the reinforced concrete slab of the composite bridge deck. Two longitudinal steel beams with heights between 2 and 2.3 m were used to suit the curvature of the bridge deck girder.

The 12 m wide and between 22 cm (at wing edges and central span) and 35 cm (on steel beams) thick bridge deck was built with a form carrier with structural trusses and beam-based formwork.

The 24 m long form carrier eased weekly pouring cycles of 22 m.

The form carrier structure has eight transverse trusses which carry the wing formwork. It moreover includes working platforms and two trusses supporting the structure that moves on rails.

ULMA also supplied steel formwork for the construction of the 38 circular piers. These were built in three stages with climbing brackets and trusses that sustain the formwork and that moreover enable to build pier caps in a single pour.
