Restoration of the Palace of Communications, Madrid, Spain

Restoration of irregular geometries at great height
ULMA undertook the restoration of the façade of this emblematic building in Madrid.

Description

ULMA undertook the restoration of the façade of this emblematic building in Madrid.

Given the size of the project, the work was done in stages.

ULMA Solution

In order to access the sides of the great towers (keeps) and to avoid erection from the ground, it required a scaffolding with cantilevers. This was done with BRIO Modular Scaffolding. DORPA scaffolding, erected from the ground, very much suited the works at the façades. Moreover, BRIO scaffolding was used to provide pedestrian walkways to prevent obstruction on the public road.

The height of the scaffolding exceeded at some points 35 m, and this in areas of high exposure to wind.

Hence, stability calculations as well as meticulous checks of the anchorage of the scaffold to the façade had to be made for each assembly stage.
